The DiMillo family has operated restaurants in Portland, Maine since 1954. Today, his wife, sisters, and sons continue his legacy in the day to day operations of the restaurant. DiMillo's On the Water serves New England classics that are fresh and well-prepared in a waterfront venue with spectacular views of the bay. The actual restaurant is a floating vessel that is permanently docked at DiMillo's Marina.
A group dined here for lunch during the ICCA 13th Annual Culinary Road Trip during the Summit this past June. The dining room setting is very traditional and the views from inside and on the deck make a wonderful ambiance. The staff and management were very friendly and attentive during our meal. The seafood was very fresh and simply prepared, with product that good you don't need to dress it up. The tag line of the restaurant is "We don't cook complicated masterpieces, just good food from fresh ingredients"; and that is very evident. The Clam Chowder was a particular favorite of mine as well as the Steamed Maine Clams served with broth and butter.
I would recommend this restaurant as a great lunch or dinner venue for gathering with family and friends who want a taste of classic Maine.
